Scripture : Jeremiah 20:9,13(NASB)But if I say, "I will not remember Him or speak anymore in His name, then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire shut up in my bones."; Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord! For He has delivered the soul of the needy one from the hand of the evildoers."
Observation : Jeremiah was obedient to faithfully proclaim God's Word in spite of the verbal opposition and sometimes physical harm. This made me think of the many missionaries serving overseas today that...

It is easy to understand why Jeremiah was known as the "weeping prophet." God called him as a spokesman to Judah and he passionately pleaded with the people to repent of their sinful ways, but no one listened. In spite of their disobedience, Jeremiah continued to be obedient to his call and cried out to the Lord in prayer. As I read this morning, God gave me several thoughts. My first thought was about how God's heart must break over the selfishness in my life and the choices I make when...

Often when I read about the continuous disobedience of God's people in His Word, I find myself for only a second wondering "why?" Why didn't they listen to God? After all, He plainly gave them instructions about how to live and He even explained the promises of blessings for their obedience. I am quickly reminded that my name, our names, could easily be written in place of the others of old. The same message and promises of blessings can be found throughout the Bible. As God gave this...

I have begun to read through and study the book of Jeremiah during my quiet time. As I read, I am reminded of how faithfully Jeremiah continued to confront the people of Judah concerning their sin and the consequences that would follow, even though they refused to listen. Jeremiah is described in some commentaries as one of the most successful people in all of history, but this success was not according to the world's standards. He was successful according to God's standards of obedience...

Today, as our staff talked about the "Ever-Loving Truth & Family Driven Education Conference" with Voddie Baucham that we will be hosting April 10 & 11, 2009, I began to think about the phrases, "Family Driven Education" and "Family Driven Ministry." I was reminded of what God's Word says in Deuteronomy 6:6-9 about how we are to teach our children to love God. These verses state very clearly that if we want our children to learn about God and follow Him, we must make God a part of...

Parents, as we study the book of Philippians in our Lifegroups and see what God's Word says about the joy of serving and putting others first, what better way to teach our children than getting involved in "Operation Christmas Child." Talking about this together as a family and allowing your children to help you shop and be involved in this worthwhile "hands-on mission" opportunity can touch their hearts and truly make a difference in their young lives.
Please stop by the display in the...

Jay shared a really neat article with the staff last week, entitled, "A Dee Dah Day,"-The Practice of Celebration. The article was about how we so often miss the joy that is a part of God's plan for us. Most of the time, we get caught up in busyness, but not only are we too busy, often we approach our daily routines or responsibilities with feelings of dread or negative attitudes. The author of the article said, "Joy is God's basic character." The more I study God's Word and continue to grow...

You know how you read different text many times, agree with it, and later you are directed back to that same text, only this time, you study it in more depth? Well that has been the case with me as I have been doing a study on the book of James. In this study, the author has you reading the same chapter everyday for two weeks. I must admit there have been times when I have wondered how there could be anything else to say or learn about that passage. Each time, I have been convicted and...
